List of works that have a “crossing over to the Otherworld” narrative:
- Pan’s Labyrinth
- Coraline
- Alice in Wonderland (and the looking glass follow-up)
- Dante’s Divine Comedy
- Spirited Away
- Labyrinth
- Mirrormask
- Neverwhere
- the myth of Orpheus
- Chronicles of Narnia
(may add more later, feel free to add more yourself! I’m very interested in this narrative, and would love to find more to reference. Most of these have a potential or overt emphasis on the cthonic/afterlife aspects, but I’m open to others!)
- May Bird trilogy
- Inkheart trilogy
- Over The Garden Wall
- The Wizard of Oz
i’m really surprised that i can’t remember more, because i was obsessed with this concept as a kid (i say, like i’m not still in love with it). i’d always look for places/items that seemed like they could be portals to another world!

images are always a classic. not so sure about sounds though
after watching some videos of a beginner oboe player, i’m afraid that i won’t be able to play. wearing a binder for years has decreased my lung capacity quite a bit. but also i remember when i was learning the flute and would huff and puff while i was building my lung capacity/learning how to moderate my airflow so maybe there’s just a learning curve!
He’s so flappy…….this made me cry
